The original 'Reasons to be Cheerful' appears in the Nostalgic Ramblings section of the site. But here's another one anyway. This was originally posted anonymously on the Barrow AFC web site fans' forum shortly after the turn of the pseudomillenium. And despite what our reader may think when he reaches no. 17, it wasn't anyone connected with Give 'Em Beans!...

REASONS to be CHEERFUL

(Part Three Two)

  1. We are playing football.
  2. We are out of the bottom three.
  3. We played Droylsden off the park at their place.
  4. We thrashed Frickley when they were on a great run.
  5. We matched a Conference team - Southport - in the Trophy for seventy minutes until the referee lent them a hand.
  6. We are getting the best crowds in the Division. And they're better than most of the Conference too.
  7. We got a crowd of 2,400 for the game against Winsford.
  8. We have an honest and hard working board.
  9. We don't have Steven Vaughan as chairman.
  10. The programme produced at Barrow is a good one, despite what several people have said on this forum. If you think you can do better then lend a hand.
  11. We have one of, if not the, best ground in the Division.
  12. We have a few top quality players - Neil Doherty, Nicky Peverell, etc.
  13. We have an excellent and informative website.
  14. We have a supportive MP.
  15. We have a great spirit amongst the fans, the events of the Summer showed this.
  16. Sandgrounder does not support Barrow.
  17. We have an excellent fanzine (blush, blush).
  18. We weren't the team that Winsford United recorded their first victory over.
  19. We have the chance of winning something in the Marsden Trophy. Not the most prestigious of Cups, but Doncaster restored a lot of pride and optimism by winning the Mickey Millan Trophy last season.
  20. We will be back in the Conference sooner rather than later.
This one's been everywhere before it appeared here - namely, the Barrow AFC web site fans' forum, Holker Street Newsletter no. 539, 13 January 2000 and G'EB! issue 043 - Jan 2000.
