Almost as satisfying as reaching Wembley was dumping
Colne Dynamos out in the semi-final. I think it would be
fair to say that most of the non-League world was rooting
for us. Colne Dynamos are a little club with big ideas. Too
big. On their showing over the two legs it seemed that their
so-called professionals had no appetite for the battle when
the going got tough, no new ideas when they went two goals
down and no motivation whatsoever over the whole hundred and
eighty minutes.
I would imagine that the HFS Loans League must have
dropped to a very poor standard or that teams just do not
believe they can beat full-time professionals. As one
policeman told me "They are just ordinary non-League players
who train together every day." The facts of the matter are
that we tackled and defended superbly, were not intimidated
by their rough house tactics, had more desire to win, scored
two classic goals and have the best support in non-League
football behind the team.
As the Holker End sang to Graham White, Colne manager
"You'll never buy supporters." Never a truer word
spoken.
